Understand Islam UK (UIUK) is a non-political, non-sectarian organisation established by a group of Muslims in the North West of UK to provide a platform for a partnership to work towards a better understanding of God’s guidance.

We promote a platform of learning together, in a tolerant, respectful and friendly atmosphere.

Going back fourteen hundred years, Muslims not only added an impulse to the intellectual development of the human race but also lifted humanity spiritually and morally during its darkest ages. This endeavor resulted in Muslim rule spreading far and wide throughout the world. This ascendancy had become possible only because those Muslims were the embodiment of true Islamic teachings.

However, centuries that followed, for various reasons, Muslims appear to have gradually lost their way. One of the reasons of this moral and intellectual decline, we believe, was their disregard for the Almighty’s guidance.

The organisation ‘Understanding Islam UK’ has been set up to address this intellectual stagnation, sectarian menace and ever-increasing personality worship among the Muslims.

We are making a humble but determined effort to bring Muslims in our local communities in the UK, back to their spiritual roots and empower them through education based on teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah.

Understanding Islam UK wants Muslims to know that their revival in this world and success in the hereafter is only possible if they make Allah’s deen their top priority in life and genuinely adhere to the teachings of Islam.

Our long-term vision is to become a credible voice on Islam locally and globally, to reduce the influence of sectarianism and, finally, to rehabilitate the Muslim ummah and its relationship with people of other faiths. We believe this is only possible through establishing the supremacy of the Qur’an and by giving all Muslims the basic tools to understand their religion. Our community-based presence is aimed at promoting civilized dialogue so that conversations about religion become open, rational and respectful. We welcome Muslims and people of other faiths to our events. Our work focuses solely on sound religious education.

We are inclusive and encourage female and family participation. Our events are multi-ethnic and non-segregated. We welcome people from all walks of life with diverse views and schools of thought who are interested in Islam.

We hope to empower Muslims to approach the Qur’an and Sunnah with confidence and open-mindedness. Our academic and inclusive approach is aimed at inculcating the spirit of inquiry with the aim of uniting Muslims around the core of Islam: the Qur’an and Sunnah.
We believe that by placing the Qur’an firmly at the center of our work and developing a good understanding of Qur’anic values and worldview, we will be able to contribute to the intellectual revival in the Muslim world.

We are unbiased seekers of the Truth. We hold all scholars of Islam and schools of thought in high esteem and are very clear that we will only accept an interpretation which is the closest to the Quran and Sunnah regardless of where this interpretation comes from. We believe that there is no compulsion in religion and Muslims and people of other faiths are free to seek the Truth in their own way.
