I have often noticed that prayer mats are folded from one of the top two corners after salah has been said.Kindly,give me the reasons why it is done and also give the reference and authenticity of the reference for this practice.

This practice by muslims has no bases in Islamic literature or traditions.The reason given for this practice has also got no bases.It is generally understood that if the praying Mat remains unfolded then Shaitan can offer prayers on it.As you can see that the reason given for this practice is completely senseless and can in no way be associated with Islamic teachings at all.
