How May I Defeat the Forces of Evil?

By: admin

Question

I like the website. It is very informative; congrats for all the efforts. I have a question, since 5 years I have been trying to focus on following Islam but now i have lost the hope as every time I start something happens and I stop following it but now the state is such that I have very weak and bad feelings developed which make me feel bad because religion without focus is not worthy to be followed. Please advice me on this.

Thanks

Answer

Thanks for the kind comments that you have forwarded to us about the website. It is really encouraging to hear what you have to say about the efforts of ‘Understanding Islam’.

Coming to your question, we must remember that it is not the results that value much in the sight of God. The Ever Merciful Creator has the most suitable and befitting criterion to judge His servants: the efforts that they employ with utmost sincerity to please the Lord of lords.

You have mentioned that you have tried for over a period of five years and have not yet succeeded in defeating Satan. I’d rather say that you find no change in the status quo even after ten or twenty years as far as your fight against evil is concerned. What needs to be appreciated is the fact that we cannot subdue Satan once and for all. He has indeed taken permission from the Lord Himself to plant hurdles and scatter thorns on our path toward Him. This business he will continue to undertake through his progeny found within men and jinn. I daresay your very thought that you must ‘quit’ now is indeed what one of his accomplices whispered in your heart. You therefore must not let him win by giving in. Make a commitment that you will walk in His way when you are not able to run and you will crawl in His way when you are unable to walk. Move, you must, on. Obliterate the very word of ‘quitting’ from your dictionary.

I have delineated below some of the very beneficial methods that will Insha’Allah help you to concentrate on your religion and to better combat evil.

The first and foremost thing, as you know, is to offer regular Sala’h five times a day in communion with other Muslims. I however would suggest you to sit in the mosque after everyone has left. Just sitting in the house of the Lord helps a believer to develop a deep relation with him.

We must also take some time to read the Holy Qur’an. It is though of utmost importance that we concentrate specifically on the meaning of what we are perusing. If unacquainted with the Arabic language, we can make use of any translation to facilitate us carry out the job.

We must seek the company of good friends. Environment has deep effects upon the moral character of a person. Bad company leads us to imbibe bad qualities and the company of pious friends helps us to acquire strength and courage to adhere to the moral ideals no matter how trying the circumstances we are put through.

We must try to spend as much time as we can in serving our parents. This service would surely attract many heavenly favors not to mention the fact that your parents would also pray for you doubling the blessings of the Almighty that will Insha’Allah flow to you.

We must ponder on the bounties of God that He has already blessed us with. We surely deserve nothing of what He already has awarded us. As we will concentrate, I believe, we will come to acknowledge Him in the true sense of the word as our only Cherisher and Master that we must submit and surrender to.

Last but not the least, we must learn to forgive ourselves. We are not perfect and indeed have many frailties. The right approach is not to condemn ourselves as and when we stumble. Rather, we had better thoroughly analyze ourselves to ascertain what we lack and where we must concentrate our efforts in order to improve. A true servant whenever errs does repent before his Lord, but resolve more vigorously to fight back again.
