Spending in the way of God

By: admin

Question:

The Quran talks about people who do not spend in the way of God. What are the sources to spend in the way of God? Is it to build mosques/support hufaz/madrissahs? Or is there more to it?

Answer:

Salaam sister

Many thanks for your query. So long as the intention behind the spending is to please Allah and there are no hidden personal motives, it does not matter where the money is spent in the way of God. It can be spent on building mosques, religious schools, making of scholars, helping the needy, building an educational school, giving to a charity hospital or any other good cause that an individual may want to contribute or is closer to their heart. There are occasions where there is an immediate apparent human need and crisis for example a natural disaster like a tsunami and earth quake where you might feel that the need of that moment may be that we should divert all possible help to them instead. Albeit it would still remain an individual’s choice.

We would also like to add that spending in the path of Allah does not necessarily mean we help Muslim causes or poor Muslims only.Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) was sent as a blessing for the entire humanity.Muslims must spend where the need is the most without looking into the ethnicity and religiosity.
