Question

Sorry for my ignorance, but can you share with me more about Islam? Is it a religion or a belief? What is its history? Any websites I can visit? If I am not wrong, there are 2 distinct sects of Islam is it? Are there the Sunni and the Shiite? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Please share with me more. Thank you and have a nice day

Regards.

Islam is a religion which is a combination of certain articles of faith and system of worhips. You will find lots of Qs&As regarding Islam on our website but you can also visit other Islamic websites which will give you very useful information about Islam.

The history of Islam is as old as that of man’s. Literally meaning ‘submission to God’, Islam holds that all the prophets of God, be it Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Ishmael, Jacob, Joseph, Moses or Jesus(peace be upon them)) were prophets of Islam. All of them introduced man to the same basic teachings of the All-Knowing God. All of them invited man to ‘submit to God’ and were therefore messengers of Islam. The last among these messengers, according to the Muslim belief was Mohammad (peace be upon him). From the family of Ishmael (son of Abraham) he was born in the Arabian Peninsula in 576 AD. During the twenty-three years of his ministry, Mohammad (pbuh) was given God’s revelation. This revelation, which is called Quran, was rearranged and compiled during the life of Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) according to God’s directives, and then transmitted by the companions of the Prophet(pbuh) through the perpetuation of every subsequent generation of Muslims all over the world to the present times.

A basic introduction of Islam can be seen in one of our previous responses.
